Protect the People

Moral Monday "Protect the People" Gathering at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 27 at the NC Capitol

Join us at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 27 at the Capitol as we call on the Governor and General Assembly to protect the people of North Carolina. Bring your American flags! Click HERE to RSVP on Facebook.

Recently, the Governor and General Assembly passed the "Historic Artifact Management and Patriotism Act," which prevents local officials from removing Confederate monuments and gives that authority to the North Carolina General Assembly and Governor. By doing so, they openly showed us their priorities: the protection of monuments -- particularly ones that honor a racist legacy -- is more important to them than the protection of North Carolinians.

The Governor and General Assembly have, for example, denied 500,000 North Carolinians access to healthcare by blocking Medicaid expansion. They have denied teachers fair pay and public schools adequate funding. They have denied workers a living wage. They have denied black, brown, and poor white North Carolinians a just criminal justice system. By denying these, they have refused -- and continue to refuse -- to protect the people. Instead, they have demonstrated their legislative priorities by protecting symbols that were -- and have been -- used to promote racism, white supremacy, bigotry, hatred, and segregation.
