The NC NAACP is a state, regional, and national leader in the fast-breaking southern civil rights and anti-racism Movement.  Our State office is in Durham, NC, and under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, we work to "speak truth to power" through protests in the streets, the courthouses, the statehouses and through actively engaging the media.  Our objective is to give voice to the voiceless, and to strengthen movements that expand opportunity for all.

We seek a creative, energetic, and committed Movement person, who is a good writer and can serve as our Communications Coordinator. The position is based in Durham.

Under the supervision of the Communications Chair and the NC President, and the indirect supervision of other experienced administrative staff, the Communication Coordinator will perform the following duties:

  • Draft Op-eds, News Releases, and other media material.
  • Logistical support of media events
  • Work with graphic design of collateral materials
  • Develop press lists and clip files
  • Prepare press kits
  • Prepare talking points and briefing materials
  • Outreach and relationship development with media 
  • Research and development of fact sheets
  • Develop effective pitches for media
  • Assist with production and editing of organizational reports
  • Update social media accounts and website to assist organizing campaigns
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Eastern Field Secretary

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Field Secretary - Eastern North Carolina

Description:

The mission of the NC NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. The Field Secretary works across Eastern North Carolina mobilizing, educating and assisting adult units with capacity building. This includes assisting local units with building a diverse membership base through age, geography, income and educational level.

The Field Secretary will also focus on expanding access to the ballot. Building upon local networks, the organizer will be expected to ensure that local NAACP leaders are actively engaged in the Our Time Our Vote GOTV campaign and facilitating non-partisan voter education, registration, protection, and mobilization with a measurable increase in voter participation among targeted populations as an outcome.

The Field Secretary will identify local non-partisan organizations and facilitate collaboration between those organizations and the local NAACP units. They will assist in the development of volunteer leaders within the NAACP adult units. Targeted outreach will be conducted with youth and Latino populations.

They can expect extensive travel and irregular hours due to the nature of community organizing.
