Last week, on Wednesday, February 25th, the NC NAACP and Forward Together Moral Movement sent a letter to U.S. Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis, asking them to confirm U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. Attorney General. Lynch, who was raised in Greensboro and Durham, would be the first female African American ever to serve as U.S. Attorney General.
The next day, Senator Tillis voted against Lynch in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which endorsed her in a 12-8 vote. Those who voted to endorse Lynch include Republican Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Orrin Hatch of Utah, and Jeff Flake of Arizona.
Both Senators Tillis and Burr have also announced their intentions to vote against Lynch when the vote reaches the full Senate.
Therefore, we are calling on all people of good will to call the offices of Thom Tillis and Richard Burr and ask them to reverse their positions and confirm Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. Attorney General. We also hope that you will ask your friends, family, neighbors, fellow churchgoers, etc. to call our U.S. Senators. You can find the contact information for their Washington D.C. offices below.
