The public is encouraged to join the Yancey-Mitchell NAACP for a short program and news conference on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, beginning at 2:30 on the Town Square in Burnsville focused on recent legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. This legislation cut funding to public schools and teachers, denied heath care insurance to poor citizens and low-wage workers , cut taxes for large corporations and those with an income over $250,000, placed our land, water, and property rights at risk from fracking, and eroded our voting rights through stricter regulation of voter access to the polls.
NC NAACP President Reverend Dr. William J. Barber, II will speak. Dr. Barber’s stop in Burnsville is part of the NC NAACP MARCH TO THE POLLS TOUR. NAACP leaders will be joining with local NAACP branches across the state to encourage North Carolinians to get out the vote for the November 4th election.
